Flowers of March

The official birth flowers for March are the daffodil (Narcissus) and the jonquil (a fragrant, small-flowered type of daffodil). Representing the arrival of spring, these blooms symbolize rebirth, new beginnings, joy, and, in some traditions, unmatched affection or desire.

“Flowers always make people better, happier, and more helpful; they are sunshine, food and medicine for the soul.”
—Luther Burbank, American horticulturist

One of the Bay Area’s most spectacular place for viewing spring bulbs is Filoli Garden. Spring time at Filoli Garden (Woodside, CA) features over 130,000 bulbs, including thousands of naturalized tulips and daffodil flowers, changing week by week as varieties of seasonal flowers bloom.

The garden is formal English Renaissance style design featuring seasonal flower beds, yew-lined paths, and the Sunken Garden. While you are visiting you will be able to view the tree covered Northern Santa Cruz Mountains.
